Jodie is a seasoned, full-time real estate consultant at Green Coast Realty specializing in residential sales, green building and historic homes in Metro New Orleans (Uptown, Lakeview, Broadmoor, Gentilly, and Metairie). As a nationally certified green building expert and leader in the sustainable building community, she is committed to helping sellers get more value for homes with energy efficiency improvements and helping buyers find and purchase homes with the kinds of high performance features they want.
Although she is a native of New Orleans, Jodie began her real estate career in 1997 in Pensacola, Florida where she lived for fifteen years. Combining her knowledge of real estate and sociology, she went on to manage a Community Redevelopment Agency and Brownfields Program in Escambia County for nearly six years. This provided her with a wealth of knowledge and experience in working with neighborhood improvement organizations, affordable housing developers, land use planning and zoning, obtaining development orders, and ways to address slum and blight including from environmental contamination issues that often exist on abandoned properties.
Jodie moved back to the New Orleans area in 2007 after Hurricane Katrina to assist family and friends who had been so adversely affected by this man-made disaster. Soon after, she obtained her real estate license in Louisiana and earned the GREEN designation from the National Association of REALTORS®. In the nearly 18 years she has been an actively licensed REALTOR, Jodie has helped hundreds of buyers and sellers along the Gulf Coast realize their dreams of buying a first home, upsizing, downsizing, and/or investing in rental property. She has built a reputation based on honesty, trust, good listening skills, patience, warmth and an extensive knowledge of the real estate industry.
Jodie’s passion for protecting the environment and building more sustainable communities in Southeast Louisiana is evident in her volunteer activities. As the past Chair of the Green Committee of the New Orleans Association of REALTORS (2012-2014), she was instrumental in “greening the MLS” (creating ways to document green features or certifications of residential properties in the database used by all REALTORS in the greater New Orleans area to list and sell property) for the benefit of buyers, sellers, and appraisers. On behalf of the Green Committee, she, also, organized several green building Lunch ‘N Learns to educate other real estate agents who are members of NOMAR, most recently partnering with the U.S. Green Building Council-Louisiana Chapter to reach out to agents in several brokerage firms. Jodie, also, serves as Secretary on the Board of the Alliance for Affordable Energy.
As to the first question most native New Orleanians ask, Jodie graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School. She bought her first home (a double in Broadmoor) when she was 20 years old, and from then on she was hooked on investing in real estate. She went on to earn a B.A. and M.A. in Sociology from the University of New Orleans and completed most of the work towards a Ph.D. in Sociology from Tulane University. With more than 300 hours in real estate continuing education including her most recent certification by the Preservation Resource Center as a Historic House Specialist, Jodie strives to keep abreast of the many issues affecting her clients.
Perhaps most important, Jodie is a mother and grandmother with a typical New Orleans love of family, friends, and good food. Over the years, she has developed strong communication and negotiation skills to build and maintain strong, healthy relationships with family, friends, and clients. Jodie wants to become your real estate agent for life, so she is patient, listens to your needs, and works with you to accomplish your goals and satisfy your needs beyond your expectations.
